What you give up — an honest accounting of any Advertising Studio replacement

Every vendor in the Advertising Studio migration conversation — us included — has an incentive to make the move sound lossless. It isn't. Any migration trades something away, and the teams that migrate well are the ones who knew the trade before signing.

So here is the accounting we'd want if we were the customer: what any replacement loses, what Cezium Ads specifically does not do and why, and the situations where the honest advice is to stay where you are a while longer — or to pick Data Cloud instead of us.

What any replacement loses

The price, if yours was $0. A lot of order forms carry Marketing Cloud Advertising as an included line. No successor is free — not Data Cloud Ad Audiences, not us, not a CSV routine once you price the hours. If your Ad Studio cost nothing, every path forward is a cost increase; the comparison is only ever between sizes and shapes of that increase.

Facebook campaign creation from Journey Builder. Ad Studio could create Facebook ad campaigns from inside a journey. Few teams used it, but if yours did, know that this capability retires with the product: replacements — ours included — activate audiences; campaigns are built and managed in the ad platforms themselves. Rebuilding that workflow means the journey feeds the audience and the media team owns the campaign, which most organizations consider the correct division anyway — but it is a workflow change, not a swap.

The muscle memory. Your team knows Ad Studio's quirks: which screen to check when a send errors, which audience never refreshes on Mondays. Any new tool resets that operational intuition for a few weeks. Budget for it; parallel-running both platforms is how you pay that cost without risking campaigns.

What Cezium Ads deliberately doesn't do

Four boundaries, stated plainly because you'll discover them anyway:

We don't create lookalike audiences. This is a product decision, and the reasoning matters. Every ad platform has its own lookalike mechanism — Meta Lookalikes, Google's similar-audience logic inside Performance Max, TikTok Lookalikes — and they are not portable: there is no such thing as pushing one lookalike definition to multiple destinations. What a "lookalike feature" in an activation tool really does is push criteria to one platform and charge you for the click. We won't: when you create a custom audience with us, you push a list and pay for that push; to build a lookalike, you select that custom audience in the ad platform — already paid for, already synced — and add the platform's criteria there. Same result, no double billing, and the media team keeps the lookalike where its tuning actually lives.

We don't ingest Meta Lead Ads. Ad Studio's Lead Capture pulls Facebook and Instagram lead-form responses into Data Extensions — and here's the part most migration content gets wrong: Lead Capture is a free feature and is not retiring. It sits outside the renewal freeze. You don't need us to replace it because you aren't losing it. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a redundant pipe.

We don't do CDP work. No identity resolution, no warehouse or zero-copy sources, no unified profiles. Cezium activates the Data Extensions and Journey audiences you already have; it doesn't compute new truths about your customers. If you genuinely need those capabilities, that's a CDP decision to make on its own merits — and Data Cloud segments as a Cezium source is on our roadmap for organizations that end up running both.

We don't publish a price list. Pricing is consumption-based — you pay for audiences pushed, every destination included — and quoted per setup, because BU counts and audience volumes vary too much for one honest public number. What we will always give you: your exact number, in writing, before you commit. Given what the alternative's billing looks like, we consider a readable private quote better than an unreadable pool.

When staying on Ad Studio is right

Nobody can renew it, but existing terms run to their end — and running yours out is sometimes correct:

  • You renewed into a multi-year term and your destination needs are static. Google-and-Meta-only, stable audience list, no TikTok ambitions: your included tool works until its end date. Spend the time preparing, not migrating — inventory now, choose later.
  • Your term ends far out and Q4 is your season. Don't migrate through your own peak. Parallel-run during it, use BFCM as the test bench, cut over in the quiet after.

Two cautions if you stay: never delete an audience in Ad Studio (it suppresses the destination audience too), and put your term-end date somewhere the whole team sees it — "staying" is a scheduled decision, not a default.

When Data Cloud is right

If your organization has committed to Data Cloud across the business — identity resolution in production, warehouse sources connected, a data team that owns segmentation — then Ad Audiences is the coherent activation layer for the destinations it covers, and our honest role in your stack is narrower: the destinations it doesn't reach (X, Pinterest, TikTok among them) fed from the same Data Extensions. Plenty of our customers run exactly that hybrid. What we'd argue against is the middle case: licensing a CDP solely to keep ten audiences syncing — that's a platform bought to replace a feature.

The scorecard

What you keep with us that you had with Ad Studio: Data Extension and Journey audiences, all six legacy destinations, your existing Meta and Google custom audiences picked up by ID. What you gain: six more destinations (TikTok — which we were first to bring natively to SFMC in 2023 — LINE, Amazon, Microsoft, ChatGPT, Spotify), streaming journey audiences, multi-source/multi-destination management, analytics. What you give up: lookalike creation inside the tool (deliberate, see above), lead capture (not lost — still free), campaign creation from journeys (retired with Ad Studio, all paths), and a public price tag (you get a private, exact one instead).

If that trade reads well for your setup, talk to us. If it doesn't, one of the two "when to stay" sections above probably describes you — and we'd rather you land there knowingly than migrate to anyone, us included, on a lossless story.

Frequently asked questions

Does Cezium Ads support lookalike audiences?

Cezium pushes custom audiences to twelve platforms; lookalikes are then created in each ad platform from those synced audiences, using the platform's own mechanism. Lookalike definitions aren't portable across platforms, so we don't sell a "lookalike push" — you'd be paying twice for one list.

Do I lose Meta Lead Ads capture if I leave Ad Studio?

No. Lead Capture is a free feature outside the retiring SKUs — it keeps working regardless of your migration choice. No replacement is needed.

Can any Ad Studio replacement create ad campaigns from Journey Builder?

No — campaign creation from journeys retires with Ad Studio. Replacements activate audiences; campaigns are built in the ad platforms. Journeys still control audience membership in real time.

Is it ever right to stay on Advertising Studio?

Yes: if your renewed term runs long with static, well-covered destination needs, or if your term-end sits past a peak season you shouldn't migrate through. Staying should still come with an inventory, a recorded term-end date, and a no-deletions rule.
