Don't bet — 2 products, 1 vendor, 0 answers: wait before migrating to Data Cloud Ad Audiences

Salesforce announced this morning that it is acquiring Braze. Until someone at Salesforce can tell you which of its two ad-activation products is the go-forward one, migrating to Data Cloud Ad Audiences is a bet you don't need to place — and nothing about your advertising requires you to place it.

What happened

On October 20, Salesforce signed a definitive agreement to acquire Braze for roughly $5.66 billion in enterprise value ($47.50 per share in cash). The deal is expected to close in Salesforce's fiscal 2028 — the year that runs February 2027 through January 2028 — subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.

The announcement says Braze will complement Salesforce's architecture across Data 360, Customer 360 and Agentforce. It says nothing about how Braze's products and Marketing Cloud's products get rationalized.

The problem nobody at Salesforce will name this week

Since Advertising Studio's renewals ended on August 15, Salesforce's official answer for ad audiences has been Data Cloud Ad Audiences — list price $2,400 per audience per year, on top of a Data Cloud implementation.

Braze ships its own ad audience syncing — Braze Audience Sync, pushing first-party segments to Meta, Google, TikTok and other platforms.

As of this morning, Salesforce owns both. Two overlapping ad-activation products inside one vendor is not a stable end state: one of them gets rationalized. The press release is silent on which. Your account executive doesn't know either — not because they're hiding it, but because the integration roadmap doesn't exist yet and won't for quarters.

If this feels familiar, it should. Advertising Studio: retiring. Audience Studio, the former Krux DMP: end-of-life February 2024, announced in 2021. Social Studio: end-of-life November 2024. Data Cloud Ad Audiences is the third ad-activation answer Salesforce has sold in six years, and this morning it acquired a possible fourth.

If you're mid-decision on Data Cloud Ad Audiences

The pressure to migrate was never a product deadline. It was a renewal deadline — the Ad Studio line drops off your order form, and the migration conversation got attached to that date. Those are separate things.

A Data Cloud Ad Audiences migration is a real project: Data Cloud provisioning, data stream mapping, Data Spaces if you run multiple brands, then $2,400 per audience per year. That's infrastructure investment in an activation product whose own vendor just bought an alternative to it. If the rationalization goes the other way in 2027, that work is stranded.

You don't need to predict which product wins. You need to not be forced to bet before the answer exists.

The move that keeps every option open

Keep your audiences running exactly where they are.

Cezium Ads keeps your ad audiences in Marketing Cloud — built from your data extensions and journeys, synced to your ad platforms, managed by the same team in the same place Advertising Studio lived. No Data Cloud project. No re-platforming. No retraining. Your audiences keep flowing while Salesforce figures out its own roadmap, and you take the 12–24 months an enterprise actually needs to make a platform decision with full information.

That's the entire pitch: we buy you time. A Cezium contract is the option premium that defers a seven-figure platform decision — it costs less than the steering-committee meetings about that decision.

And whenever you do decide — more Data Cloud, Braze, something else entirely — your audiences, their destination IDs and their campaign learning move with you. Nothing about waiting is wasted.

Three questions to ask your Salesforce AE this week

  • Which ad-activation product is go-forward: Data Cloud Ad Audiences or Braze Audience Sync? Will you commit to that in writing?
  • If Data Cloud Ad Audiences is rationalized after the Braze close, what happens to per-audience fees already paid and to the audiences built there?
  • What exactly stops working for my advertising if I don't migrate to Data Cloud this renewal cycle? (The honest answer: nothing that Cezium doesn't cover.)

Frequently asked questions

Should I still buy Data Cloud Ad Audiences?

If you're buying it purely as the Ad Studio replacement, there's no urgency that justifies deciding before Salesforce clarifies the Braze roadmap. The renewal deadline affects your Ad Studio line, not your ability to run ad audiences — that's solvable without a migration.

Is Braze replacing Marketing Cloud?

Nobody knows, including, for now, Salesforce. The announcement positions Braze as complementary and says nothing about Marketing Cloud Engagement's long-term roadmap. Treat any confident answer — in either direction — as speculation.

Does the acquisition change the Advertising Studio shutdown?

No. Ad Studio renewals ended August 15, 2026, and that mechanism is unchanged: at your next Marketing Cloud renewal, the Ad Studio line comes off the order form. Most co-termed contracts hit that between now and January 31.

What happens to audiences I already run in Ad Studio?

They keep working until your renewal. Migrating them to Cezium re-attaches your existing destination audience IDs, so lookalikes and campaign learning survive the move. See the Migration Kit.
